Editor's Review
It's year 2025, where life as you see it, is what it seems. You buy a house and cannot afford to complete your payments, what happens? As simple as it sounds, it gets repossessed. Can't afford your car payments, it gets repossessed too. Can't afford your internal organ payments, it gets repossessed as well! Err...hang on just a minute! Organ payments? Repossession of your organs? What in god's name... how does one repossess your internal organs?! Enter, The Repoman!
Yes, in 2025, a corporation called The Union has perfected the creation of artificial organs, which have replaced organ transplants. Basically you can buy an organ sold on credit, and if you fail to maintain payments after three months for your organs, a repoman is sent to you to reclaim their property. Of course, the organs don't come cheap. And as the sales pitch goes;
"The process of the repossession is brutal, and often results in the death of the customer." It really is as simple as that.
"So how do we do this?"asks T-Bone a musician who is overdue on his payments for his artificial heart (played by rapper RZA). "It's much easier if you lie down," says Remy (Jude Law), while he proceeds with the repossession as if it's the most natural thing in the world.
Of course, it's 'just a job,' for the repomen. No remorse, no regrets and no pity felt for the screaming, tearing, bleeding-to-their-deaths, wriggling victim...
"How do I get off the system?"one may ask, "Give me back your heart, literally...no joke."
Blood spurting, crucial screams and unappetizing cutting of the bare human flesh is the theme in this flick. Repomen is a story of how a man who repossesses internal organs for a living has the tables turned around on him, when he suddenly becomes victim of a repossession.
And who is sent after him to take back the organ? (The organ in his case is a heart) His best friend and colleague, Jake (Forest Whitaker.)
Remy (Law) goes on the run from The Union and in the process meets with another customer of The Union Beth (Alice Braga) who has more than one organ that is due for payments. Together, they try put a stop to the system, but find out it's close to impossible.
Brilliant acting from both Law and Whitaker in Repo Men, which has been retitled from the original novel called 'The Repossession Mambo.' With an over the top amount of gore and humor sprinkled at the right moments, this flick is a potential major success until the ending arrives.
When I watched the trailer of the movie, I wasn't intrigued one bit, but it's synopsis got me curious and furthermore with Jude Law as the lead, it became an even bigger reason to catch it. And as it turns out I wasn't the least disappointed, even though the reviews were not very appealing online.
A major warning however, this flick is truly not for the faint-hearted or the squeamish. And on another note, you might not want to eat before or during this movie. After the movie however, well that's entirely up to you and how strong your stomach is.
